You have tried the latest fad diet, eating nothing but fruits, nuts, and fish for months on end. You have tried all the latest exercise crazes, the water aerobics, the Pilates, the weight training, putting in hours of your time and huge amounts of energy. The problem is, even after all of that concentrated effort, there are still stubborn pockets of fat on your body that just won’t go away! It’s so frustrating, but what more can you do?
Well, thanks to the miracles of modern medical science, you can take control of the situation by giving nature a little help with technology! The quick and easy way to remove those annoying fat pockets is to undergo a non-invasive fat freezing treatment! Cryolipolysis, also known as fat freezing, is a nonsurgical method of fat reduction that utilizes cold temperatures to reduce fat deposits in those stubborn localized parts of your body that don’t respond to diet and exercise.
This very safe and simple procedure can be performed in an outpatient clinic or a doctor’s office. The process begins with an assessment of the size and shape of the fatty deposit, then the area designated for treatment is outlined with a special pencil designed to temporarily mark your skin. You will be awake during the entire procedure.
To begin with, a gel pad will be applied to the area in order to protect your skin. Then, a handheld applicator will be used to freeze the layer of fat cells lying under your skin. The fat bulge will be suctioned up into the applicator’s hollow opening, and you will feel the tugging. You will then feel some sensations like intense cold, stinging, tingling, cramping, and aching- these are not very intense and will only last a few minutes because the area will soon become numb from the cooling effect. The fat layer is gradually cooled to the target temperature of around 2 degrees Celsius. The procedure usually only takes about an hour to complete. After the applicator is removed, your clinician might massage the area for a few minutes to promote the breakdown of the fat cells.
Cryolipolysis works because fat cells are much more susceptible to the damage caused by cold temperatures than other types of cells, like those that make up your skin. The fat cells are injured by the cold temperatures, triggering the body to begin an inflammatory response which ends with the fat cells dying. White blood cells called macrophages, part of the body’s immune system, are summoned to the location of the injury to carry the dead fat cells away and out of your body.
You might have a small amount of swelling and tingling after the procedure, but it will clear up in a few days. Expect around a 20% loss of fat after your first treatment. The effects are not instantaneous, you will notice the improvements after around two months have passed by. So, say goodbye to that stubborn unwanted fat, you just have to give it the cold shoulder!
