What Are The Benefits of Keeping Your Body Hydrated?

Health

We often hear from our family and friends that water is the most significant nutrient that our body requires and it is quite essential to maintain good health, especially as we get older. But we often skip or forget to drink water. Although the human body is 75% water, we still have to continue drinking enough water to survive.

It is recommended to keep your body hydrated by drinking at least six to eight glasses of water every day due to the following reasons:

  • Weight Loss

This may look surprising but drinking ample amounts of water can help you reduce weight. When you drink water, it provides you a sense of fullness and satisfaction in between meals. Drinking additional glasses of water before each meal can result in substantial reductions in body weight, body composition, and body mass index.

So, instead of grabbing a packet of chips next time when you feel hungry, try drinking water. It’s a win-win situation.

  • Physical Performance

If you have ever experienced a muscle cramp, that’s because you aren’t drinking enough water. Due to dehydration in the body, your muscles and joints tense up. That is why doctors always suggest drinking water throughout the day, especially for people who exercise regularly or participate in sports activities.

Staying hydrated helps your joints stay well-lubricated which helps in reducing friction. Reduced friction means smoother-moving joints and fewer body aches.

  • A Healthy Heart

Healthy Heart

The heart is the most essential part of the body that continuously pumps to ensure you get enough oxygen to all body cells. When you don’t drink enough water, it causes dehydration which eventually leads to lower blood volume. This further causes the heart to work harder and faster to make sure that the rest of the body gets desired Oxygen.

As the heart overworks, it increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other heart conditions. Therefore, drink plenty of water to keep your heart healthy.

  • Headache

Headache

Even mild dehydration can cause the brain to contract away from the skull, which leads to headaches. You may feel pain all over your head or in just one spot. This may vanish in some time or stay even for hours or might get worse when you shake your head, move around, or bend over.

When you feel headache, take small sips of water. You can also take a break from physical activity and rest for a while.

  • Prevent Kidney Stone

As per different research, it is estimated that 1 in every 10 people will have a kidney stone at some time in their lives. Water is the solution to this problem as well. If you drink extra water, this dilutes the substances in the urine. You can prevent repeat stones by drinking at least 10 glasses of water a day.

Moreover, water also helps in flushing harmful bacteria from our bladder and prevents urinary tract infections (UTIs).

  • Body Cleansing

You often feel fatigued due to the toxins you consume via food, air, and other environmental contaminants. If you drink water, it cleanses your body by helping organs like kidney filter waste from the blood.

The more you drink water, the more your body release toxins. This makes you feel refreshed and energized.
