OpenAI on Tuesday, May 28th, said that it had begun training a new flagship artificial intelligence model that would succeed the GPT-4 technology that drives its popular online chatbot, ChatGPT. Moreover, this AI model, once implemented will be more advanced than that of the GPT-4 system.
OpenAI’s GPT-4 was released in March 2023. It was a powerful update to GPT-3 which powered its successful ChatGPT chatbot launched in November 2022.
The Microsoft-backed company announced in its blog post, that it expects its “next frontier model” to bring “the next level of capabilities” as it works towards building artificial general intelligence, the advanced technology with similar capabilities to that of humans.

As OpenAI has begun training a new AI model to succeed the GPT-4 system, it will also set up a safety and security committee. Moreover, the committee will advise the full board on “critical safety and security decisions” for its projects and operations.
The committee’s first job will be to evaluate and further develop OpenAI’s processes and safeguards and make its recommendations to the board in 90 days. Only then the company will publicly release the recommendations it adopts “in a manner that is consistent with safety and security.”
