“People say- When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! I, on the other hand, was more focused on turning those lemons into achaar, lemon rice, lemon muffins, and much more!”
Food is the ultimate connection to culture, tradition and home. In a fast-paced world where culinary trends come and go, some flavours remain timeless. Bringing these flavours to millions, is Madhura Bachal, a trailblazer in the digital culinary space.
Back in 2009 when online cooking tutorials were just introduced, Pune native Madhura was living in Chicago and working with the State Bank of India. During her maternity leave, she explored traditional Maharashtrian cuisine but struggled to find authentic recipes online. A foodie at heart who cherished her grandmother’s recipes, she decided to make her own recipes and share them through a blog. As Facebook was gaining popularity, she began posting her recipes there. To her surprise, she gradually built a loyal fan base.
That’s when Madhura decided to take a bold step and launched the first-ever YouTube channel dedicated to Maharashtrian cuisine. The inception of Madhura’s Recipe in 2009 made Madhura the first Marathi woman to start a Marathi food channel on YouTube.
Today, her channel, MadhurasRecipe, has grown into a massive food community with around 10 million followers on YouTube and has been a prominent name for 17 years. Combining all social media platforms, she reaches over 14 million fans. It is the first Marathi channel to have crossed the milestone of 8 million (80 lakh) subscribers. With more than 3500 recipes, she is successfully preserving traditional flavours and inspiring countless home chefs to experiment, learn, and celebrate food like never before.
The Trilingual Food Creator
Madhura has always been passionate about sharing authentic Maharashtrian recipes with the world. What makes her truly unique is that she does this in three different languages – Marathi, Hindi and English which makes her the only trilingual food creator in India. By doing this, she ensures that the authentic and rich flavours of Maharashtra reach every kitchen, no matter the language spoken.
She also came up with the concept of “Angat Pangat” to preserve authentic Maharashtrian cuisine. Through this, she brings forgotten recipes back to life and ensures that these dishes are passed on to the next generation.
During Covid-19, home cooking became quite popular, with almost all people becoming fond of cooking. At that time, Madhura’s content became a lifeline for many. Her recipes, known for their simplicity and authenticity, made cooking easy and enjoyable for millions.
A Woman Who Never Looked Back
Madhura published her first recipe book in 2018 and to her delight, it earned its name on Amazon’s bestseller list. The same year, she gifted authentic Maharashtrian spices to the world by introducing her spice brand– Madhura’s Recipe Masala (MRM). Under this brand, she sells Goda Masala, Byadagi Mirchi, Pav Bhaji Masala, Malvani Masala, Kanda Lasun Masala, Special Kala Masala, and Misal Masala. She has an extensive clientele including Reliance Fresh, Lokmat, Big Bazaar, Dabur, ITC Limited, Himalaya, Ching’s Secret, PediaSure, and Fresh To Home to name a few.
Madhura has authored 12 cookbooks, all of which have consistently featured on Amazon’s bestseller list. Madhura’s Recipe has introduced authentic Marathi spices and products, which are in high demand. She is the first Indian YouTuber to successfully launch and market her own products.
Recently, she expanded into e-commerce under her brand, MadhurasRecipe, where she is offering kitchen utensils and tools. Her first product was a massive success and she is out of stock on the next launch date which shows the power of social media influence.
