Stories are all around us and they have a way to teach many lessons. Amazon Prime Series Panchayat Season 3 is a perfect example of this. It is just out and people are loving it.

From Jitendra Kumar’s stellar performance as Sachhiv Ji to Faisal Malik’s scene-stealing portrayal of Prahalad Pandey, Panchayat has captured the hearts of many.

Beyond the entertainment, this show actually has some great lessons about money. We understand that you hadn’t thought about it that way. Let’s dive in and understand how Panchayat proves to be a finance class.

What are the different money lessons you can learn from Panchayat?

Small Steps, Big Savings

Manju Devi in the show Panchayat demonstrated that there is no age limit for learning. She is the village head on paper but it’s her husband (Raghubir Yadav) who handles all the administrative responsibilities. Over time, she realizes the importance of taking an active role and starts learning and participating more actively in governance.

Lessons Learned

In real life regardless of age, individuals should prioritise learning about budgeting, investing, debt management, and retirement planning. All these money lessons cannot be learnt in a single class, it is a continuous learning that helps individuals to make informed financial decisions, thereby reducing the risk of financial pitfalls.

Additionally, people should begin their financial education with small steps. When you set clear financial goals, such as saving for retirement or spying off debt, provides direction and motivation to make sound financial decisions.

In the village, local MLA Chandrakishore Singh, finds himself embroiled in accusations of killing and consuming a troublesome dog. Despite allegations, he places his trust in Bhushan and his accomplices. They provide Singh with insider information about village affairs in exchange for promises of power. However, Singh unwittingly finds himself in situations such as accidentally killing a pigeon meant for peace and contradicts being vegetarian by consuming meat.

Lesson Learnt

As they say, investing in stock markets is a risky business, likewise getting financial advice from inexperienced and people who don’t know much about investments is a risk. Moreover, if you take financial advice from people without checking and rechecking the facts and details of investment schemes, you will end up suffering just like the MLA.

The Price of Big Dreams

Jagmohan’s Ammaji comes to the Panchayat office, she claims that Jagmohan and his wife have thrown her out of their ‘pucca’ home and now she has to live in a thatched hut. She pleads to Sachiv Ji (played by Jitendra Kumar) to put her name on the Prime Minister’s homes for the poor scheme. Moreover, the claim she put on Jagmohan turns out to be spurious, and Pradhan Pati insists on Ammaji getting an allotment.

Another character in the show Prahlad is shown sleeping under the stars, never going back home as he mourns the loss of his son. Walking through the large but empty home makes Ammaji realise that it is better to live in a small home with a loving family, rather than living alone in a large one.

Lesson Learnt

Imagine a man named Rajesh working hard to save money to buy a big house. He believes that owning an impressive home will bring him happiness. So, he spends long hours at work, takes on additional roles, and cuts down on family time. It leads to a strained relationship and unnecessary financial stress. Whereas his friend Deepak lives in a modest home and his home is filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Seeing him Rajesh finally realises that a home’s true worth is measured by the happiness and love it contains, not size or luxury.

Today’s Savings, Tomorrow’s Security

Rahul Pandey, Prahlad’s son, taught us the value of life. Life is uncertain; appreciate every moment since there is no guarantee for tomorrow. Things can change in an instant and they can be good changes or bad changes.

Lessons Learned

You should never wait for the “perfect time” to start investing or saving can be detrimental. Just as tomorrow is never guaranteed in life, delaying important financial decisions can result in missed opportunities. So, start creating emergency funds, investing in retirement accounts or pursuing financial goals.

Investment Clarity

Season 1’s first episode was about finding the lost Panchayat office’s key. The characters were searching for the key in different fields where Pradhan Ji took a dump. It would have made the audience go ‘Eww’ and not want to watch the whole episode and find faults in everything.

Lesson Learned

Just like viewers might not like some details in the episodes, people will find some or other mistakes in every investment scheme. You should consider the opinion of others but in the end, the decision should be yours only. If you nitpick like the colour scheme of the brochure was wrong or the way the salesperson sounded, you will end up losing a good investment option.
