A week after India’s independence, a company took birth with the intent to manufacture and sell pharmaceutical formulations. Founded by Late Govind Ramnath Kare, on 23rd August 1947, Indoco is a fully integrated and research-oriented pharmaceutical company engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of Formulations (Finished Dosage Forms) and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). It has more than seven decades of presence in the market and is strengthening its wings in the international markets by offering complete solutions, including product development, manufacturing, and supply of finished medicines, APIs, and Intermediates to generic companies across the globe.

Indoco has a total of 9 manufacturing facilities out of which 6 are for finished dosages and 3 for APIs. Around 6000 personnel including over 300 skilled scientists work in the company. Indoco is achieving consistent growth due to its expertise in R&D activities, backward integration in API in select products, and excellence in dosage manufacturing.

The Managing Director of the company is Aditi Kare Panandikar. She has received the ‘Leader of The Year’ award at the Business Goa Awards for Corporate Excellence 2016. Her outstanding and high-powered leadership has played a major role in taking the company to greater heights.

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs)

Indoco offers a wide range of services with respect to API supplies. All the new APIs are developed through non-infringing processes, which leads to the hassle-free launch of high-quality products. Its API manufacturing facility is located in Patalganga. A pharma zone is also designed to maintain class 100 thousand conditions with proper pressure differentiation of filtered air through the HVAC system. It also has a purified water system having a DM plant with an RO system. It offers its R&D capabilities to innovators and generic companies for APIs and Intermediates development. The services offered include Custom Synthesis of Molecules and Intermediates, and Non – Infringing Process Designing and Scale-up. To manufacture APIs and intermediates, Indoco has state-of-the-art facilities. It also manufactures and exports APIs and intermediates to Regulated and Emerging markets with necessary documentary and plant approval support.

Finished Dosage Forms

Indoco offers many dossier development services. Dosages offered include Solid Dosages, Creams & Ointments, Toothpaste, Liquid Orals, Ophthalmics, and Injectables. It exports its products to many countries like Congo, Ethiopia, Algeria, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritius, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Thailand, UAE, Zimbabwe, and many more.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Spread over an area of 100,000 sq. ft., the facilities at the Center include Synthetic Chemistry Labs, Formulation Development, Analytical Method Development, Regulatory and Intellectual Property Rights Cell. The company’s API section has the capabilities to not only synthesize APIs and work on process development but also on the development of non-infringing processes for APIs and intermediates. The research and Development team engages in the development of different kinds of dosage forms like solid & liquid orals, creams & ointments, ophthalmic preparations, small volume parenteral, and dental products. Not only this but it also engages in the areas of modified release products like controlled release and sustained-release products.

During the pandemic, Indoco used several different approaches and provided immediate assistance to all the doctors by distributing PPE kits, sanitizers, masks, and educating patients about safety precautions. Indoco’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic was fast and furious. It is undoubtedly improving the quality of life of many people across the globe.
