18th December 2022 will be remembered by almost every sports enthusiast and especially those who saw Argentina taking the lead over France and winning FIFA World Cup 2022. The entire world was watching Lionel Messi on Sunday and going crazy. 

The CEO of Google Sundar Pichai confirmed that FIFA World Cup 2022 drove the highest search traffic on Google in the last 25 years. 

In one of his tweets, he wrote“Search recorded its highest ever traffic in 25 years during the final of #FIFAWorldCup, it was like the entire world was searching about one thing. ”

Shortly after the match was over, Pichai wrote, “One of the greatest games ever. Well played Argentina and France. Jogo Bonito. Nobody deserves it more than #messi, imho the greatest ever to play the game. What a swansong. #FIFAWorldCup”

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi congratulated the winning team and tweeted, “This will be remembered as one of the most thrilling Football matches! Congrats to Argentina on becoming #FIFAWorldCup Champions! They’ve played brilliantly through the tournament. Millions of Indian fans of Argentina and Messi rejoice in the magnificent victory! ”

In another tweet, he also praised the French team. He wrote, “Congratulations to France for a spirited performance at the #FIFAWorldCup! They also delighted Football fans with their skill and sportsmanship on the way to the finals.@EmmanuelMacron”

Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball for the best player at the world cup. He scored twice in the final in Doha, taking his tally to a total of 7 at the tournament. He also scored in the shoot-out as Argentina beat France 4-2, the competition team on penalties following a 3-3 draw after extra time.

Kylian Mbappe won the Golden Boot as he became the top scorer with 8 goals. 

Emiliano Martinez bagged Golden Glove with 2 penalty shoot-out wins for Argentina. 

The midfielder and 21-year-old Enzo Fernandez won the Best Young Player award. He topped the vote ahead of England midfielder Jude Bellingham, 19 and Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol, 20.

Argentina Has Won three FIFA World Cups So Far 

Argentina won its first FIFA World Cup in 1978, the second in 1986 and the third one in 2022. Argentina was runner-up three times, in 1930, 1990, and 2014. The country has become one of the most successful national teams worldwide.  

And Messi Is Not Retiring…

Woah! Great News. Lionel Messi quashed speculation regarding his retirement and brought smiles to the faces of all his fans after guiding Argentina to the World Cup Victory in Qatar. He pledged to continue playing for Argentina.

The 35-year-old player said, “Obviously, I wanted to complete my career with this, (I) can’t ask for more. Finishing my career this way is impressive. After this, what else? I have a Copa América, a World Cup. Almost at the very end.”

He also said, “I love soccer, what I do. I enjoy being part of the national team, the group. I want to enjoy a couple of more matches being a world champion.”

Lionel Messi could be in the side for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, as said by Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni.
