The food delivery company made many interesting revelations about India’s eating habits, their favourite dishes, and the most ordered food items. According to this survey, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai alone recorded more than 5 crore food orders in the country. 

Swiggy also mentioned in this survey that new trends in food, grocery and delivery habits have emerged in India and finally brought everything back to normal after the pandemic. Let’s quickly see what India ate in 2022 the most. And which food lives rent-free in the heart of every India. 

The Most Ordered Food

According to Swiggy’s survey, Biryani once again won the title of most ordered food in India in 2022. For the last 7 years, Biryani maintains its legacy of becoming the most-ordered food. But this time, Biryani sets a whole new record with 2.28 biryani orders per second. Around 137 Biryanis were ordered every single minute on Swiggy. Yes, you heard it right! That’s how much India loves Biryani.

After Biryani, the comfort food Masala Dosa is the second most-ordered food in India. One of the most popular South Indian dishes, Masala Dosa now has fans all over India. Apart from this, Chicken Fried Rice, Paneer Butter Masala, Butter Naan, Veg Fried Rice, Veg Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are the most ordered dishes in India, respectively. 

Indians don’t hesitate to love foreign dishes as well. The foreign flavour of Ravioli and Bibimbap became a hit among Indian foodies. The survey revealed that Italian Pasta, Mexican Bowls, Spicy Ramen, Pizza and Sushi also make their place as the most loved food by Indians. 

North Indian, Chineses/Pan Asian, Biryani, Desserts, Burgers and South Indian cuisines are the top 5 cuisines sold by Cloud Kitchens.

With over 4 million orders in a single year, Samosa stands at the top of the list of most-ordered snacks. A humble street snack and a perfect partner for tea, Indians love to eat Samosa during snack time. After Samosa, Popcorn is the second most popular snack with around 22 lakhs orders. Here is an interesting fact – most of the popcorn orders were made post-10 PM.

How can we forget to have something sweet after the meal? Indians are famous for having a sweet tooth. Satisfying the sweet cravings of Indians, Gulab Jamun was the most-ordered dessert in 2022. It was ordered more than 27 lakhs times in only one year. After Gulab jamun, the most popular desserts were Rasmalai with 16 lakh orders followed by choco lava cake with 10 lakh orders respectively.

The other most loved desserts include Rasgulla, Chocochip Ice Creams, Alphonso Mango Ice Cream, Kaju Katli, Tender Coconut Ice Cream, and Chocolate Fudge. 

Changing Food Habits In Indians

This survey by Swiggy also depicts that Indian people’s food habits are changing. They have replaced junk food with clean, traditional and healthy dishes. In fact, there is an increase of 22% in the searches for guilt-free food options.

In addition to the food, Swiggy’s grocery delivery app received record-breaking orders for organic fruits and vegetables with over 50 lakh kilograms orders. The demand for exotic fruits such as Dragon Fruit, Berries, Pomelo and Wood Apples has been increasing in the metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. 

Talking about the preferences of Indian people, how can we not talk about Tea & Coffee? The most loved thing in India. The love of tea & coffee can be seen in its increasing demand. A rise of 300% has been noted in the orders of tea & coffee. 

The Rising Trend Of Dineout

Finally, after almost 2 years of covid restrictions, people are eating out once again. The Dineouts are now getting popular among people. With the most number of people eating out, Delhi topped the list for the fourth consecutive time. An average of 596 tables per hour were booked for dineouts via Swiggy.
