Hustling with our daily lives, we often put a lot of pressure on ourselves to stay productive and constructively use our energy. At the workplace, we work consistently and try to give our very best to produce some fruitful output.

But have you ever felt guilty for not feeling productive? Don’t worry you are not alone in this! Everyone at some point of time must have this feeling of not being productive. It is not something that you should feel ashamed of.  

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay!

If you are not feeling productive for a day just take a day off or engage in an activity that keep you going. You don’t have to feel guilty for feeling like not doing anything. It is very important for you to understand the reason why are you not feel like doing anything. Is it because you are procrastinating or you genuinely don’t have the energy to do that task?

If you think you are just procrastinating, find a reason to complete that task and complete it as soon as possible. But if after a long time you just don’t feel like doing your regular task, then you don’t have to force yourself to be productive. 

In the end, we all are humans, not machines that you can just plug on and start working. So if you have one of those days, we have a solution for you to cope with the feeling of unproductivity:

  • Get Outside for Fresh air

If you have this sudden feeling of not being able to do anything, the best way is to go outside and get some fresh air. Going out in fresh air and sunlight instantly boosts your mood and fills you with new energy. This new energy will push you to continue your work with more focus. 

If you think that you cannot focus on your work and do anything productive, the best thing to do is to go out and take some fresh air and sunlight. Take a walk, meditate or just simply sip your coffee in the outdoor area.

  • Turn Off Your Phone

If you do not feel productive but have a mountain of tasks pending then you simply can’t afford to take a break or do anything that hampers your work. In this case, we suggest you to limit all your distraction so that you can concentrate fully on your task without getting distracted. 

To limit the distraction, the first and most important thing that you should do is to turn off your mobile phone or mute all the notifications so that it cannot ping you. The addiction to smartphones is real. Turning off your phone can prove to be really helpful for you and surely help you increase your productivity. 

  • Listen to Your Favourite Music

Great music can instantly lift your mood up. If you feel a lack of energy, just plug in your earphones and listen to the music according to your taste. You can listen to classical, jazz, or instrumental music, it totally depends on you and your mood. Music refreshes your mood and calms your senses and trust us, you’ll feel much better. 

  • Complete Tasks That Take Less Time

You don’t need to give your best performance at work every day. And we are sure that your boss understands this if the rest of the days you work with all your heart. But it is also important to keep going. As it is said, the key to success is to keep going. 

If you don’t want to do anything important, try to complete those tasks that do not take much time and you can do them even without much concentration. This method helps you in two ways, firstly, you can tick off some of the tasks from your task sheet. And secondly, completing these tasks gives you a sense of achievement and you don’t feel like you are just wasting your time. 

  • Reward Yourself

It is human nature that we complete those tasks with the utmost dedication which gives us immediate rewards. So, it is always a good idea to reward yourself with a treat or any other thing that you like on the completion of the task. 

Reward serves as a motivating factor that helps us in keep going. So, next time you feel like not doing anything try setting a reward for yourself. 

  • Take a Break

How to deal with unproductivity

Sometimes our body needs a break and it is necessary also. It is very important to take a short break and go on a vacation. This changes your mood and re-energises you to be more productive. 

If you cannot take an off from your work, you can simply just take out 5-10 minutes from your schedule and rest. Then you can get back to work. This breaks the stress and resets your brain to work with more efficiency.

Therefore, it is okay to not be okay! It happens with everyone. Feeling unproductive once in a while does not mean that you are failing in life. Neither does it means that you will fall behind if you don’t do anything productive. So, if you are feeling unproductive, relax and try the above-mentioned hacks to get rid of the productivity blues.
